Recently, we had the privilege of crafting a bespoke Australian itinerary for B from California, a traveller with a keen eye for detail and a spirit eager to embrace new experiences. B’s month-long adventure became a testament to what can happen when local expertise and meticulous planning meet the freedom to explore, guided by serendipity and the warm embrace of the unexpected.

" Our month-long adventure in Australia was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to the impeccable planning of Tāpoi, who crafted a meticulously detailed itinerary that ensured we experienced the best of this stunning country. From the vibrant culture and delicious food to the awe-inspiring wildlife and diverse landscapes, every moment of our trip was a celebration of the beauty that Australia has to offer.
We were fortunate enough to be encouraged by Tāpoi to step outside our comfort zones and engage in some unforgettable experiences that we otherwise might have missed.
“One of the most magical moments was a late-night call from Tāpoi, urging us to witness the Aurora Australis. It was a spectacle we will never forget—the Southern Lights were beyond breathtaking.”
Another unforgettable highlight was participating in a night feeding at Bonorong Sanctuary in Tasmania. We were able to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife, including the Tasmanian devils and wombats. It felt so special to be part of something so intimate and crucial to wildlife conservation.
Our journey took us to many breathtaking places, but perhaps one of the most exhilarating moments was arriving in Melbourne by helicopter, landing right in the city center. The aerial view of the bustling metropolis was jaw-dropping, and it made for an unforgettable arrival. Later in the trip, we were also able to witness the spectacular kickoff of Vivid Sydney from the comfort of our hotel balcony—another unexpected and delightful treat.
We would be remiss not to mention Matt, our guide along the Great Ocean Road. His warmth, humor, and deep knowledge of the region made our experience there truly special. He took the time to really get to know us, tailoring the itinerary as we went along to ensure we saw the sights we most wanted to experience. Matt was a joy to be around—his big heart and passion for the area shone through every day.
Tāpoi Travel’s careful attention to detail meant that every moment was filled with new discoveries and incredible experiences. We felt as though we were able to pack in six weeks' worth of adventures in just four. Whether we were flying, boating, or driving through this vast and diverse country, we were constantly amazed by the variety of landscapes and experiences Australia offers.
The highlight of our trip was, without a doubt, swimming with whale sharks in Exmouth. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was both humbling and exhilarating, and we’ll treasure the memory of these magnificent creatures for the rest of our lives. Scuba diving at Navy Pier in Exmouth was another highlight—an underwater world teeming with life that left us speechless.
We were also taken by surprise at the sight of hundreds of camels on the reservation in Uluru—who knew?! It was a reminder of the unexpected wonders that Australia continually offers. And let’s not forget Tasmania, a region so rich in natural beauty, history, and culture. We’ll absolutely be returning to explore it further.
In short, we fell in love with Australia, its people, and its boundless adventures. Our trip was a whirlwind of excitement, beauty, and wonder, and we have Tāpoi to thank for making it all possible. From the bottom of our hearts, we can’t wait to return.
